Ingeenee installed nearby Pena Palace

We are thankful for the Portuguese support for Ukraine. Free World is helping Ukrainians to stop Rashism. As a gratitude to the Portuguese, we installed our travel AI engine Ingeenee across Portugal. The result is a Curious Portugal. Probably the best road trip planner ever existed.

You could go right away to https://curiosio.com/country/?iso=pt to explore your drives. However, we recommended to continue reading to learn more about Portugal, and the making of the Curious Portugal.

Portuguese Knowledge Graph

We got ~3000 points and ~54000 places in Portugal. There are ~14000 villages and small towns, many of them beautiful and cozy, especially in the mountains. All geographically separate (visible on the map) settlements were ingested as standalone points: those are cities, towns, villages, and freguesia (aka “civil parish” in Portuguese). Overall, the OSM node density in Portugal is good.

To validate that you — travelers — can find anything and everything to plan your trips to Portugal we tested it ourselves first. The result is Signature Trips that could be taken as inspiration or information on what others do, and build on top of them.

Portuguese Signature Trips

If you are a super-traveler then you know what you are doing, you can plan your trip from scratch. Other travelers need information and inspiration on what’s possible out there. Our signature trip collection is a good starting point for Portuguese road trips. You can repeat those travels by moving to different dates. You can change the plans to your requirements.

Classic Portugal in One Week

“Portugal is a land that lends itself to taking things easy. If you’ve got a week, spend time exploring Lisbon, the historic and happening capital that is the heart of the country’s cultural life; take a relaxed ride out to nearby attractions, driving through forested hills or vine- and orchard-covered countryside to view World Heritage Sites within an hour or so of the city; chill on a beach, admire the view from a cliff-top lighthouse, or settle down to a seafood lunch.” — Frommer’s.

Blue Glazed Portugal

Portugal has a special blue charm because of azulejo. Azulejo everywhere: on the interior and exterior of railway stations, churches, palaces, houses, cafes, bars, along the streets, and even underground. We promise you will find other cool points & places on the route: Nazaré with its waves and surfing, the southwesternmost tip of Europe Cape St. Vincent, and others.

Park your car at the hotel and use public transportation in big cities. Azulejos are present in almost every station of the Lisbon Metro. Perhaps the Lisbon underground isn’t as dramatic as Stockholm but it’s very cool — many contemporary artists have been commissioned to decorate the stations.

Head to the Coast

“This Portugal road trip itinerary takes in the best of the country’s 513-mile coast. Heading south from the capital, it snakes into the Algarve taking in coastlines on the Atlantic and Gulf of Cadiz. Spectacular and sun-soaked.” — KAYAK.

Taberna Touring in the Alto Tâmega

“The remote historical province of Trás-os-Montes — beyond the mountains — is one of Portugal’s best-kept secrets. It’s a perfect destination for a slow road trip, going from one hidden taberna to another, discovering small villages where life is still serene.” — Condé Nast Traveler.

You can modify the trip plan by duration, budget, points, places via the red [Modify] button. Curiosio will stick to what you want and propose what you don’t know on top of it. E.g. you can add Soajo point.

More Signature Trips

You can find all these and other interactive trip plans on the Curious Portugal web page. Some of them are Portuguese Age of Discovery by Curiosio, Portugal’s Silver Coast inspired by Thrillist, Road Trip Through Portugal’s Wine Country inspired by Condé Nast Traveler.

Curious travelers will like the Portuguese Age of Discovery itinerary for sure because of the famous geeks Ferdinand Magellan, Vasco da Gama, Henry the Navigator. You could visit their places in Portugal and learn more about them, their time, and their crazy brave missions.

Web Search

You could web search directly from Curiosio like you usually google. If you find a travel story or travelogue or itinerary that you like then you can automatically start planning via the points & places mentioned in it.

Below is an example of how to search for Algarve one-week trip. First, you type your request. Second, you review search results. You could click any search result item to go to the original article. Third, you click the red [Plan trip] button to auto-fill the web form for further tuning according to your needs.

Thank you for reading/skimming/scrolling down here. Now it’s good to navigate to https://curiosio.com/country/?iso=pt to experiment with your road trips in Portugal. Stay tuned and always follow your curiosity.

Typically operating behind the scenes, Ingeenee remains invisible, diligently working to fulfill its astronomically complex tasks. If it were to become visible, it would resemble the enigmatic vantablack monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Its size may vary, adhering to a ratio of 1:4:9. Ingeenee can be installed in any location, enabling the mining and propagation of travel intelligence since its setup.
