Curiosio consists of the super-duper optimizer over the graph of points and places. After the thorough testing of the new knowledge graph of urban and nature points and their POIs we are starting to dock them together: the graph and the optimizer. The optimizer is our AI engine Ingeenee. The graph is also ours.

Constant Adaptation

Don’t remember the name of this mental model but it must exist — when a thing remains unchanged for a while, it becomes outdated, because the world around it changes. In the technological world the pace of change is high. Just glance at the wires and adapters you accumulated for your devices. Software technology changes even faster…

So the matter of fact is that “old” Ingeenee optimizer has not docked airtight to the new graph of points and places from the first attempt. The world [represented by the new knowledge graph] had changed sufficiently during that relatively small period of time while we were building the new model of it. Now we need to adapt the optimizer… Maybe that mental model is called Adaptation?

How the World Changed?

Driving. Some roads have been closed. Some roads have been opened. As Curiosio is doing routing we have to know how to drive from point A to point B, mileage, drive time, type of the road, tolls, etc. Since our graph of places grown 10x — our routing need grown 100x. Runtime physical limits have been hit. We have implemented new data format and new data query algorithm.

Go near. Actually Airbnb is using this exact expression, capitalized. It means taking your own car and explore interesting points near the point you live. Curiosio was optimized for this main case: you fly to the starting point, rent a car, take a road trip, drop off the car at the finishing point (can be the same as the starting one), and fly back. Now things are changing: you are driving in your own car, maybe ignoring everything in 4h vicinity around the point where you live, and then either stay at some destination or take a road trip in that region, and then return home.

Trip duration. Short trips are becoming more relevant. Short is 2–4 days. Short frequent trips by car is a new normal. Long trips are also relevant. Long is 3 weeks or so. Some travelers can do now what they couldn’t do before. It all depends how people work from home or remotely or combine home/office. The previous common duration of a week isn’t a guideline anymore.

More nature. Physical aka social distancing is going to stay. There is no better way to distance yourself and your family from others than to make a unique personal journey. Open air is safe. Big indoor is safe enough. Small crowded indoor is unsafe. Travelers will appreciate small towns, villages, parks, agritourism, nature reserves. Curiosio must propose such trip plans automatically.

Gasoline price. There were changes in gasoline prices throughout the world. Lockdown driven. And we are going to introduce electric cars.

How is Integration Going?

Main control and data flow is already working in the Lab for Canada. Next will be the United States. We are planning to release beta10 with seven countries: US, CA, AU, IT, FR, GB, DE. Stay tuned, follow your curiosity.
